The Maryland Department of Labor has proposed extending the implementation of the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Program.
The Maryland General Assembly is expected to take legislative action on this proposal in the near future. Therefore, our FAMLI Education Workshop scheduled for February 19, 2025 will be cancelled as we await more information and details regarding this proposed change.
The Department of Labor recommends the following updated implementation schedule:
- Payroll deductions would begin January 1, 2027
- Benefits would become available on January 1, 2028

Important News for Small Businesses: Paid Leave is Coming!
Maryland is implementing a new program called Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI). This program will help workers get paid time off for things like having a baby, caring for a sick family member, or recovering from their own illness. All businesses in Maryland, even those with just one employee, will need to contribute to this program.
What does this mean for my business?
- Starting July 1, 2025: The contribution period opens.
- First Payment Due in October 2025: You'll make your first payment to the state in October.
