We are excited to bring back Mocks & Socks for our second year– a new way to celebrate an old tradition of the Chesapeake Bay.
In 1978, Bob Turner, a boatyard worker and avid sailor from the Chesapeake Bay region, unintentionally started a unique tradition to welcome spring. Tired of the grind of a particularly rough winter, Turner celebrated the Spring Equinox by throwing his socks into a fire exclaiming he was done wearing them until the cold weather returned in the fall. Up and down the Bay, sock burning became a way to say "goodbye” to winter and “hello” to the promise of sunshine and warmer days.
Being conscientious of the current drought conditions in our county, we are adjusting our event. Bring a pair of new socks, or a non-perishable food item, and toss them in the donation box and enjoy an evening of music, vendors, raffle baskets, and a mocktail (non-alcoholic) competition for all ages!
Won’t you join us in making Mocks & Socks a “must-attend” event in 2025?
